What a winter we have had so far. What has started out warm and dry has turned into a snowstorm every two to three days. I was thinking though as I write this, that there is really only a few weeks until we start getting regular, warmer spring type weather. The forecast indicates that spring would be starting about the second week of March. Yes!!!
I like spring. It’s my favorite season of the year. The trees wake up from their winter nap, the birds return with their songs, and a new plant is blooming every day. I start making lawns green, say hello to all my friends I have been servicing for years, and start signing up new clients who want a nice lawn. My decision to forgo additional applicators has been rewarding to me personally as I enjoy making people happy and lawns green.
What does this year look like? It’s going to be sunny, warm, rain occasionally, have dry spells, much like every other year. All that really changes is we are all a little older and wiser. This will be the 29th year of Green Grass. I have enjoyed each year so very much. There are still many, many clients from year one who took a gamble on a 25 year old kid and a push spreader. I turn 55 this year and I appreciate the clients both new and old who stay with me and my company because we both like a nice clean, green lawn, and appreciate the personal interaction.
New on the lawn last year was a ride-on spreader called a Steel Green Spreader. It has allowed me to complete each round in a much faster time, with less fatigue, as it is far more capable than the older spreader. The new innovations in equipment amaze me. I am also ordering an aerator called the Stinger. It’s a zero turn ride on aerator that will fit on every lawn and speed aeration up considerably. It also has a seed box on it so I can overseed while aerating.
We will continue to follow our COVID protocols this coming year. That means we will ring your doorbell and step back 10 feet to maintain social distancing. All our trucks are sanitized regularly. COVID has touched my family, I lost two Aunts to the disease. Hopefully, you haven’t been visited by the virus.
I always have to talk about my girls and how proud I of them. Ceara continues her march within Arkatecture as the Head of Research and Development, Implementation manager, and I lost count of her other titles. She is busy and enjoying working from home. This year I may even get to design her a landscape for her new home. Eilise has just been promoted to the Manager of the Life is Good store in Portsmouth. Hopefully, this summer she will also get to take part in the marketing internship that was postponed last year. They both make me a happy and proud father.
I look forward to seeing you on the lawn!
