Astilbe x arendsii ‘Fanal’ (False Spirea)
I let Ceara pic the plant of the month this spring, and she chose Astilbe ‘Fanal.’ A very good choice, this plant looks best in mass plantings.
Astilbe is a hardy perennial that has an easy care level and grows well in partial or full shade. Beautiful in a variety of red colors which contrasts nicely with its green foliage. The deep maroons are something you don’t frequently come across in a garden. It is both deer and rabbit resistant and also attracts butterflies; this cultivar will add height and a pleasing texture to any perennial garden.
I have a couple Hosta shade gardens that will look good when I plant a bouquet of Astilbe ‘Fanal’ to them.
